Updates 3/1/24

3/1/2024

Scholastic Book Fair
We're having a book fair! Come check out the Scholastic Book Fair from March 4th-7th at our on-campus program. Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet- your child's digital payment account.  Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child's eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. If you can't make it to the Fair, then shop at our school's Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping.

Save the Date: One Pill Can Kill Parent Night
Mark your calendars! On Monday, March 11th, we will have the One Pill Can Kill Student and Parent Assemblies on campus. Students grades 6-8 will have their assembly in the morning, and ALL families are welcome/encouraged to attend the parent assembly in the evening from 6 to 8 pm.
In 2022, Placer County launched the 1 Pill Can Kill Placer campaign with the hopes of educating our community on the dangers of fentanyl. With the understanding that these key conversations start at home, the campaign joined with the Placer County District Attorney’s Office to add parent informational meetings to their Speakers Bureau Program.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The information meeting, led by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, utilizes compassionate storytelling, partnering with local parents who have lost a child to fentanyl, as well as local health professionals. The topics include:
  • What trends the District Attorney’s Office is seeing locally and nationwide
  • What is a  fake prescription pill
  • How our children are being targeted on social media
  • Local stories of young lives lost to the fentanyl crisis
  • The new category of victim
  • How the county is addressing this issue
  • Tips on how to talk to your children about the issue
  • How to proactively identify a problem
  • Resources and more
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
EVERYONE. The fentanyl crisis is affecting families from every walk of life. It is affecting the local athlete, the student who is prepping for upcoming exams, the kids struggling with ADHD, the otherwise “good” kid and more. This crisis does not discriminate. If you have a child, this session is for you.
WHAT WE HOPE YOU TAKE AWAY
We hope this session opens the lines of communication with your children on the fentanyl crisis. At this point, your student has most likely heard of fentanyl and has probably sat in one of our student assemblies. We hope this information meeting will give you the tools to continue the conversation with your kids at home. We all have our part in ending this crisis, together.

Lending Library On Campus
Next time you're at our main campus, you can take a book and leave a book! Our Little Lending Library has been installed in front of the Kindergarten & 1st/2nd grade classrooms. If you'd like to leave a couple of extras to help fill the library, please do as long as there is space.
A huge Thank You to Luke & the Fox Family for their time and generosity in getting everything installed!

Girls Volleyball Sign-Ups
For the first time in school history, Harvest Ridge will have a Girls Volleyball team! 7th and 8th grade girls interested in playing can sign up here (If you already signed up previously you do not need to resubmit).
Our official schedule will be available in the next week or two, but the highlights of the schedule are:
  • Practice begins on March 6th
  • Practices will typically be held on Mondays & Wednesdays at Newcastle Elementary School at 2:45 (we will be using their gym space, not combining teams)
  • Games will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45 (our home court will be at Alta Dutch Flat Elementary School)
Mrs. Paige Staton will be coaching the team this year. We're looking forward to a fun inaugural season!

Yearbook Photos Needed
Our yearbook team needs your help! Please share photos that you've taken of your students, afterschool clubs, sports, etc. to help provide content for this year's yearbook.
