Sexual Health Education Resources
As an Independent Study Charter School, Harvest Ridge Cooperative Charter School values the family role in educating our students. An important aspect of this education is the support and guidance for our students as they grow and change through the teen years. Harvest Ridge feels that the conversations with students surrounding changing bodies, values, and smart choices is enhanced when parents engage in these topics with their kids.
What is the school's role in teaching Family Life? California state law, the California Healthy Youth Act (AB 329), requires that comprehensive sexual health education and HIV prevention education be provided to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, starting in grade 7. Harvest Ridge will be teaching lessons regarding puberty, growth and development, anti-bullying, safe relationships, and sexual health to students in grades 5-8. NO STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE INFORMATION WITHOUT PRIOR PARENT CONSENT. Is there a curriculum that I can access? Yes, there is.
